Discover Tirana — Albania's Vibrant Capital
A half-day walking and driving tour through the best of Albania's capital city. Tirana is one of Europe's most surprising cities — colourful, chaotic, and full of contrasts. Ottoman mosques stand beside brutalist communist monuments and pastel-painted apartment blocks decorated by the artist-mayor Edi Rama. This tour takes you through all of it.
We start with a walking tour of Skanderbeg Square — the beating heart of Tirana. Here you'll find the Et'hem Bey Mosque (1821), the National History Museum with its famous mosaic facade, the Opera Palace, the National Bank, and the iconic Pyramid of Tirana (former Hoxha Museum). We also pass the Prime Minister's and President's offices and the University of Tirana.
The afternoon takes us to Mount Dajti at 1,613m — Tirana's mountain, reached by a 15-minute cable car ride. The mountain holds ancient Paleolithic settlements dating 10,000–30,000 years ago and notorious communist-era military bunkers. Activities at the top include horse riding, air gun shooting, and an adventure park. We finish with an optional visit to Bunk'Art 1 — a museum inside the dictator Enver Hoxha's atomic bunker, one of the most extraordinary museums in Europe.
